Psychiatric Rehabilitation services

Psychiatric rehabilitation is an aspect of treatment that focuses on helping the person return to an optimal level of functioning and to achieve their life goals. This is brought about by providing medical, psychological and social input. There is no strict boundary between treatment and rehabilitation.
Not all persons with mental illness require rehabilitation. For many patients, medication or a combination of medication and therapy is sufficient to help them get back to a functional life. For some others, rehabilitation may be that essential final part of the treatment cycle.

Psychiatric Epidemiology

The Psychiatric Epidemiology unit is an intellectual community of faculty and students who share a commitment to investigating the causes and consequences of psychiatric disorders. We use this knowledge to develop effective population-wide and clinical interventions. We aspire to use our findings to improve living conditions for people with mental disorders, which are affected not only by the symptoms of their disorders, but by the profound effects of stigma and social exclusion.

Perinatal Psychiatry clinic

A relatively new specialty, perinatal psychiatry focuses on the mental health of pregnant women rather than on women who have already delivered their baby. Since mental illness can present differently in pregnancy, it needs to be handled in a specialized manner. The needs of mother and baby must be considered when a mental illness is present.
